I thought that EU compensation would only kick in if the flight originates in the EU. Seeing as the flight departed from Dubai I don't think any EU compensation would be applicable. I could be wrong though but my feeling is forget about EU rules. I am not sure about other compensation though.
According to http://www.euclaim.co.uk/missed-connection it is arrival time at final destination that determines Compensation payab but if ex-EU flight was on time they will probably argue against it,
I had an ex-MAN flight delay of 3 hrs in September which caused me to miss connection and arrive 6 hrs late. Emirates haven't paid up yet-need to follow up.
