NO... it isn't clear. you think all ihg members are scanning FT to see if there is a thread about closures for something that no other loyalty program does? when you put in a code, it tells you if you qualify. not surprisingly, any sane person would think that was a pretty good indicator- not a 'gotcha trap'.
many codes you cannot sign up for. my spam filter catches things it shouldn't. i also miss emails because of the sheer volume one has to wade thru daily (inspecting every email would literally be a full time job). i'm not unique. seeing a code and checking to see if you qualify isn't nefarious. to the contrary, it's quite innocent. i have had codes in ads signing into awardwallet that i don't qualify for! how can that be- it must be a general offer to be on a splash screen ad. so, if it had let me sign up and i got shut down for it- would i deserve it in your opinion?!?!?!?!
a company deciding the solution to their IT shortcomings is to, without warning, cancel accounts/seize points/cancel reservations... this is ok? it's borderline personality disorder conduct from a major corporation. who would see that craziness coming?
if they were going to take this tact, any sensible company would have had a page come up after sign in stating that targeted codes have been abused and that, GOING FORWARD, any account using codes they were not targeted for, would have their account closed/forfeit points. then there would be an "i agree' box to check. and.... DONE.
whose solution is better- mine or theirs?
not exactly a huge IT challenge to do what i propose. if they don't have even 1 guy in IT who can accomplish this rudimentary task, they could hire some kid off of Fiver. I'm sure they could get it done for $50 and/or 10k IHG points.
oh, and btw, the head of the ihg reward program, in an interview with loyaltylobby BEFORE they started closing accounts was asked about this and. his answer essentially told people they didn't care. AWESOME. what was that- a trap? the only conclusion i can come up with is that somebody at ihg rewards went off their meds.
* my account has not been closed- so no dog in this fight. i just find it hard to fathom that, given ihg's conduct, anyone would defend them unless they have an agenda, or just love to defend 'the rules' regardless of, well, anything.
^ that's exactly it, why attempt defend the indefensible? Just doesn't make sense, what's the motivation?
