Of course the account closures are going to be unilateral - hardly likely to be a consensus view by both parties that the account be closed
IHG did re-open your account- it is your choice if you choose to stay elsewhere. If other hotels are better placed or value for the trips being done, wouldn't make sense to use IHG. If you are putting yourself out by not using them , then is it worth it?
The whole thing seems irrelevent now - it is clear what the terms are and anyone misusing codes now has nothing to whinge about if their account is closed for doing so.
i'm not sure what you mean, they reopened my account and put the 2.2m points back in immediately. I'm sure if they didn't want the account, they simply would not have reopened it, you can come to your own conclusions as to why. The guy in the Salt Lake office was sacked by, Amex. They got rid of him for poor performance (aiding and assisting the competition probably), no defamation in fact.
The unilateral approach is nonsense, most decent organisations would contact their loyal customers, and say, "hey we really did a silly thing, changing our strategy, and not telling anyone, hey here's the new policy, no more using the codes we've been publishing for years and years as a marketing tool on our own websites to gain market share, so now you know our new rules, that we hadn't told you about when we closed your account, now we re open it, and appreciate your loyalty, and we'll continue to show you ours, as long as you play by our new rules, we are just telling you about now, thanks again for being a loyal IHG customer"
Is it irrelevant? i don't think so, people are still discussing it, because they remain annoyed at IHG for what they did, there is vastly much more hostility towards IHG in this thread than support from a handful. i didn't disagree with your last point.
