Was thinking of going up to Beijing but think we might cut it out and just spend our time near Shangai. Should we reconsider? We will be in HK & China for a month using our accumulated points. Hubby really into photography and I am into shopping and experiencing the culture. We like experiencing things on our own so no tours or really big touristy stuff. It will be our first time in China.
I have another question. Is the tap water in the China DoubleTree hotels drinkable or do you have to be careful and use bottled water for brushing your teeth? I understand that you need to be careful with water in China but I wondered if certain hotels might have good water filters for the whole building.
Thanks for your help!
Thanks
If you'll be in China for a month, I suggest taking a week to visit Beijing. There are many of the more well known attractions, as well as great food (Northern Chinese cuisine is quite different from what you'll find in Shanghai and HK). But then again I am biased as I'm from Beijing.
As for using tap water to shower or brush your teeth you should be fine in HK, Shanghai or Beijing, but don't drink the water (don't swallow). For smaller cities it's touch and go as I've seen some really bad stuff. Just FYI though, any time I've run into unusable tap water in a hotel, there had always been a warning telling me not to use the tap water between certain times. This has only happened to me in smaller cities though (Lanzhou, and Anshan).
