Yes, you keep them, but no I don't think it is documented that you keep them or will lose them.

Once with BA they stay there. That's why Amex told you to ask BA. No one has ever reported losing an earned voucher that I can recall. I can't recall anyone posting links for this to be guaranteed. You'll need to keep an Amex card when you travel as sometimes they ask for it as ID.
