Not unexpected at the largest Starwood hotel in the world (by room count). Although, even on the ground level they have a dedicated gold/platinum check-in area. Furthermore, most check-in staff spoke good English everytime I have been there.
I remember someone posted a picture of the check-in area with a large crowd in the Master Thread. I think it has the most number of check-in counters of any Starwood property.
