To be honest cost wise I think they are extortionate to hire especially once you add on insurance which you'll need.
Not that this is Scotland-specific, but... I've hired a caravan / motorhome in Australia twice, and even after playing providers off against one another and finagling discounts it was fiendishly expensive. The per-day rate rivaled the cost of a four-star hotel, and then you add full-whack insurance cover, lots of petrol, campsite fees, and food and drink... they were lovely tours but definitely not economical ones. Would think hard about whether to repeat. I could have a Jag or something plus luxury resort lodging for less outlay.
