I realise this is an old thread, but I basically have the same question. Looking at travelling to Scotland from Australia next year with my mother. Considering a motorhome. I can hire one for around GBP6,000 to GBP7,000. This is for around 8 weeks in July / August. I looked at Airbnb, but can't see much for under GBP1,000 a week. A car is going to cost around GBP2,000 or so.

I know that it'll cost more in fuel in a motorhome than in a car, but there appears to be cheaper to hire the motorhome than a house / car.

That aside, are there any traps I should be aware of? Any companies that are recommended? Or any which have a reputation for being difficult to deal with?
