All that being said, having been on different flights from different destinations CBP might not want to process you together, I say that after two of my employees who were married arrived together and tried something similar at ATL-CBP was not happy and they both got a secondary.
This happened about 4 years ago so now who knows. It was not an issue of segregating flights but CBP felt they were trying to "dupe" them somehow (they were not, and 45 minutes later they got out). YMMV
Good information. Even though we're coming from the same destination, (one award on UA and my ticket on AA to log the miles) this is just the sort of problem I'd want to avoid.
