In general, Aspen (at least Ajax mountain where the Regis is located) is going to be a bit more challenging terrain than DV so that is either a good thing or bad thing depending on what you are looking to do. It's true you can take a shuttle to all the other mountains in Aspen on the same lift ticket, but if I am paying that kind of dollars (or points) I want to be able to walk right out onto the slopes and not have to hop on a shuttle. My skiing style, now that I am a bit older fits DV perfectly. While I certainly can ski Ajax mountain my legs will quickly tire from it so I much prefer the runs at DV, but that's just me.
For those reasons we choose St Regis DV last year and loved it. I love DV's terrain and I loved the hotel. The town of Park city is wonderful and the Regis has the free car service to take you into town whenever you want. This worked really well for us.
If I wanted to go to Aspen I personally would rather stay at the Westin Snowmass since that is where I would be doing most of my skiing. On a ski trip it is all about the the actual skiing experience and the convenience of being slope side to a mountain I could really enjoy. Having said that, the Westin will be a step down from the Regis, for sure, but I will take that trade off of being at a lesser property so that I can be on the mountain I am actually going to do most of my skiing.
