Qantas is particularly good, since you get benefits on Emirates as well as OneWorld, plus you can earn points from shopping at Woolworths and using the various credit cards, utility bills etc. Although with QFF, the earn rate with BA can be poor, frustratingly so if you fly on economy restricted BA15/16 flights like I do.
The other alternative is moving to the dark side with Virgin....
Qantas is definitely not one I would be recommending for anyone starting out in a scheme; its redemption rates are atrocious together with fuel fines galore
If close to lifetime gold status can be worth pursuing, but otherwise another scheme would seem a good choice
To the OP's question, unless has arrived into AU on a ticket which is not spent, then going to SIN is pretty much the only option ; if still got a ticket, perhaps try changing it to go to melbourne or similar
