If I were on the flight, I'd be rather upset for an announcement over something mundane as new year's.

And that you may! In fact, whenever you want during the flight, if you are in business, you may have a glass of terrible sparkling wine!

Something cool my parents and I did about 30++ years ago (when my father still was paying for our adventures)--a special package offered by British Airways. Celebrated NYE's at the Savoy in London, spirited off to LHR, boarded Concorde, took off for JFK, passed new year's over the Atlantic, landed at JFK and whisked to the Waldorf, and rang in the new year's for the third time in about 6 hours!
