I'm pretty sure FM/MU are pretty much on par in service, FM might be a little friendlier but they are pretty much the same. MU might have the newer J seats on their A320's though. I'm sure others on here have more insight, but if u can I would pick the A330 flight with a proper J seat.

I would just book J if it's only $80 difference, more miles and better seats.

Thanks all for the responses! I figured $80 was worth it for the upgrade as long as it wasn't intra-Europe style seats but it sounds like they are proper US domestic-style F seats and for a 4 hour flight, $80 is definitely a go.

As for the FM/MU difference - I appreciate the insight. Unfortunately the A330 is only available for the 9pm departure which I don't want to take (I'll have been in Shanghai for a few days so no need to stay for the whole day just to get on the A330). The 1225pm flight is the MU A320 and it sounds like that has a chance of being newer and is at the best time IMO so sounds like that might be the way to go.

In either case, is there any lounge access at PVG for departing international J passengers on MU/FM? I assume there is some sort of SkyTeam or Delta lounge that provides J passengers lounge access on day of departure
