When I check the BAEC site, it shows me over $500 in fees for flying BA through Heathrow. The stopover is just a few hours. (There are occasionally KLM/AF flights available for around $700 all-in, though not at the moment, so this is not a good use of my Avios points.)
If you are right about no UK tax, someone should tell BA.
