I am thinking of using this as a platform to take payments from my spouse for making the mortgage payment as the cost would be less than what we're doing now with a mix of Williampaid and Venmo due to the loss of Amazon Payments, and it could be a useful tool for clearing out office supply store gift cards bought with a Chase card.

My question is specific to those who tried the system - will it process Vanilla Visa or Amex Gift cards? Or only bank issued credit/debit cards?

I will need to check if Intuit has a similar 1099 reporting threshold as Amazon, but I have already had personal experience with MS coming up with an IRS audit and I can state with clarity that the IRS will not tax you on these funds if you show a) the funds were used to make a payment on behalf of someone, or to pay off the source of funds used to make a payment, and b) you can show with documentation that the deposits in from the service or person giving you money equalled the payments made out to your mortgage or other bill payment. It's basically money someone is giving you to pay a bill on your behalf, or money your moving across platforms to pay your own bill, and it's not taxable if the dollars in/out line up....but I'd rather not have this issue come up repeatedly with them.

So, for anyone who has used Intuit, does the swipe reader accept gift cards, and what is their reporting threshold?
The required threshold for 1099 reporting is the same for every payment processor. However they can report for amounts below the threshold, which Intuit does....they've been known to report everything. I've used GCs with them before but it was a few years ago.
