Just got back from my recent trip to downtown Chicago. Had one night here and spent a few nights at other hotels. I have to say I still really love the rooms and charm of the place. Some very interesting people watching to do in the hotel. Some of the guests can be quite eccentric to say the least. Anyway, I got an awesome upgrade. Booked the standard deluxe room and was upgraded a few days out to a Waldorf suite. The suite number switched a few times when I checked the check in feature, but I never checked in hoping for an even better upgrade. Around 4 pm day of arrival my room was changed to a Gold Coast suite room and that is quite a spectacular room. Clerk was quite surprised at check-in at the three level upgrade. However I don't expect the same to happen again but it made me feel like they were trying to treat me well and I love hotels that upgrade to nice rooms that are going to be sold anyway (the same as I like hotels that let you check in early if they have availability and I never return to those that summarily dismiss you, and make no effort to check, when asking about early check in). I found the staff very friendly and welcoming as well as professional and taking charge of addressing or resolving any question or issue. All in all I would definitely return, I love the hotel and the neighborhood (and fireplaces and soaking tubes). Also, they will save your preferred room preferences for this hotel if you ask them to do it. Any questions, just ask and I will try to answer them.
