Issaya Cooking Studio

I figured I'd start a new thread for this, though its a bit overdue. I was in Bangkok in September and signed up for a couple classes at this studio.

I really enjoyed the classes. It is definitely an upscale cooking class, and likely priced to match. I had signed up for 2 classes. The first was a class with Chef Ben that was on Issaya recipes and the 2nd one was a class taught by Chef Ian himself (http://ianchalermkittichai.com/).

The first class with Ben was amazing. I turned out to be the only one signed up for it so I basically had a private lesson. The food was great! We cooked Issaya baby back ribs, Yum Nua (that beef salad), Som Tum (green papaya salad, and Penang Gai (chicken curry). Chef Ben was also there working on some other projects. He asked my why I wasn't a seafood person and I told him I just didn't like the fishy taste. He then said he had a special cured Salmon that he'd like me to try if I was interested. I figured I'd give it a shot and I have to say it was amazing! it was cured with Lemon Myrtle that he had brought back from Australia. Overall it was really a great day.

The next day I had the class with Chef Ian. I was really impressed with how personable he was. We talked at length about Seattle and New York and the restaurants he has been involved in. Just an overall really nice guy. And, great food to go with it.

I'd highly recommend this cooking class. yes, its a bit pricey, but it lives up to it in my opinion.
