1. Yes, you might get away with it and get checked in on your domestic segment (why not just tell us what "AAA" is??)

2. But, if you don't, you won't be flying at all and will have to purchase a one-way to LAX at walk-up prices and beg AA not to cancel your onward segment when you no show for the first segment of your international ticket.

3. Silly risk and, as others note, it makes no sense to travel without your passport. The day will come when you need it and you won't be able to route yourself to some place you need/want to go.
