I'm with you on this answer.

I don't have a passport card, but the passport book lives in my bag/briefcase at all times. It acts as my "in case I lose my wallet in Walla Walla, WA and I need ID for TSA to fly my return segment home" backup. I keep a credit card in it as well for the same "in case I lose my wallet and I need a credit card to get home" reason.

My NEXUS card lives in my wallet 24/7.

I had a trip last year where I drove to Canada and crossed using my NEXUS card, but due to snow had to fly back to PHL via YYZ. I was very glad I had my passport book stashed in my bag, even though I did not expect to need it.
