The upgrade window is the earliest that a requested domestic "500 miler" upgrade may clear. As a PLT, it's 72 hours, this means that if you request an upgrade in advance for a flight departing at Thursday noon, it may clear as early as Monday noon. But it may also clear after that, or at the gate (or not at all).
