How do I fix this? Extending free rental, etc problems

Hey there,

Original itineraries;
- 1 day one way rental Dec 19th-20th from Denver to Aspen airport
- 1 day one way rental Dec 23rd-24th from Aspen to Denver

All of this is booked with the 2-1 free car rental promo certs.

On the morning of the 20th I said, let keeps the vehicle. I call National direct. They cannot add modify a started reservation.

They say, lets just extend your rental from the 23rd-24th to the 20th, and then you call Aspen National for permission to not "return" the vehicle, and just stay in the same vehicle.

They can only apply 3 of these 2-1 coupons to the itinerary. So they make a 21st-24th itinerary (all on free certs), and then they make a 3rd itinerary on free nights (Dec 20th-21st, picking up and dropping off in Aspen)

So now my itinerary looks like this
Dec 19th-20th with a pickup at Denver, dropoff at noon in Aspen.
Dec 20th-21st with a pickup/dropoff at Aspen, noon for the time as well
Dec 21st-Dec 24th with a pickup at Aspen, and a dropoff in Denver

I am told by the National phone agent that I need to get the verbal permission now to not "return" the vehicle on the 20th and 21st to the Aspen airport.

I call Aspen airport and speak with a person I can now thankfully positively identify. They said keep the vehicle, don't bother coming to the airport, just return it to Denver.

Around 1pm on the 20th I get a notification on my phone to call to extend my rental. Unsure of this, I say, we need to make it to the airport sometime soon.

On the evening of the 21st, we go to the airport with the keys in hand and say we want to make sure everyone is on the same page. They close out the reservation for the 19th-20th, and this is now reflected in my account as a pickup at Denver, and a dropoff at Denver (when we "dropped it off" in Aspen) on the 21st. My rental histories on National's website no longer has the rental agreement for the 20th - 21st rental. And it turns out National just opened up a tab on my credit card and started charging it for the day of the 21st. At this point, im pretty sure the girl on the phone on the 20th is the source of my problems. She didn't close out/begin all these rental agreements. At this very moment she would have had the days print out in front of her with all of her customers names and etc.

I call Denver airport, they refund what I believe is total charges - taxes for the 20th-21st rental.

I look at my current rental agreement and see it is for the 21st - 24th, which is 3 days. And they have 89 x 4 for the # of days, and then they have my coupons applied 89 x 3 being subtracted.

Sooooooo

1) What happened to my 20th-21st rental agreement number? Aspen can't find it (not even 24 hours after I was supposed to pick it up). I remark that they would have been expecting this car back today and they would have printed out the rental agreement yesterday.....no luck on finding it anywhere.

2) Did the girl on the morning of the 20th just not understand the thing I was seeking approval for in its entirety? The fact that it still required her/them to close out and begin the new rentals?

3) I have spent so much time with Aspen national, National on the phone, and Denver National. Honestly, they have all been very difficult to work with. The top of the top phone agents (escalation team) put me on hold to try and find the 3 rental agreement numbers and then after like 8 minutes on hold it just goes to a "Thanks for calling the National VIP team, we are open yada yada, if you are calling outside of those hours". My girlfriend is like, "you have obviously tried to do everything possible to get this taken care of, and investing more of your time seems useless". She wants me to just return it on the 24th, full of gas, and then dispute any charges on my credit card above and beyond taxes. Is this reasonable at this time?

5) Why does my 3 day rental on the 21st - 24th say 4 day rental, and expected charges of like $140? I don't get mathematically how they are getting 4 days.

My biggest problem is I can't find record of my 20th-21st rental. And it owuld appear all I can do is call to confirm the coupon codes I applied were actually redeemed.
