Will I be able to have my bags checked all the way through to my final destination or do I have to collect them in T4 and take them across to T5?
How long would folks suggest for the transfer? Will i have time to use arrivals lounge if getting in at 10:30am and my next flight is at 1pm from T5?
I think DL has an interline agreement with BA. If on different tickets, bring a copy of the BA itinerary with you. While DL will probably through check your bags, BA is known for being far less inter-line friendly if it's separate tickets. As such, I would not expect BA to inter-line (unless it is one ticket) on the return if you're planning to do so.

Are you all on 1 ticket or separate tickets? If you are on separate tickets I don't think you will have enough time to go to the arrivals lounge as you would have to collect your bags and re check (unless you can get DL to tag them all the way through - not sure if they do this. In reverse BA wouldnt).
Even if you are on 1 ticket and bags checked - 2.5 hours isn't a huge amount of time to connect through multi terminals at LHR so I would personally just go through flight connections. Ba have a 45 minute bag drop off cut off and a 35 minute conformance at security - miss those times and you miss your flight.
Agree with
ANstar, 2.5 hours is
not a lot for a T3->T5 connection. Remaining airside, I'd estimate 15-30 minutes to get the bus to T5 and you'll have to clear security again there (which T5 is a bit of a mess these days). As LHR's terminals are geographically separated, you cannot just walk (airside) from one to another. If you try to clear UK immigration and use the arrivals lounge, you'd have to take the train (runs every 10-20m) to T5...NOT recommended in this case!
