Interesting experience today at Target. Was going to load a card under a family member's name. Register gave an error that alternate payment required. Tried with 2 different cards from 2 different banks, same thing. Called the cards, and they don't even see the transaction attempts, so it looks like a stop from Target's end.

The cashier, who in the past seemed pretty knowledgeable about RedCard and loading, said it's a new thing that the name on the CC must match the RedCard. He said a lot of people have been using these to generate credit card points (REALLY??) and the CC companies are unhappy and want to track SSNs to shut down abusers, so you can only load cards with your name or if you are an authorized user (which apparently requires SSN). Said this happened several times today for people trying to load others' cards.

Didn't see this reported anywhere else on my quick search, so trying to figure out if this was just a system error today and they guy is just making stuff up, or if this is a new system update, or perhaps even a crack down by Target or AMEX? So far haven't heard of any shut downs...
