Somewhat similar situation, except we booked what we thought we needed and have modified our plans.
Booked 7 nights in London with a king bed. Now we've decided to go with 2 nights outside of London and then the last 5 nights of the original award reservation.
Since it's for later this week of course availability for award reservations is limited, therefore the 5 nights is only available on a paid reservation.
Called Diamond res and they said they could only cancel it and 'see' if it showed up as available. That sounds like a good way to have no 'award' reservation.
Of course they give me the line, 'the hotel only has so many rooms available' despite the fact that I'm already booked in one of those rooms.
They were completely unhelpful. Next step is to call the hotel directly to see if they will actually help work this out.
Certainly understand there are limitations to what the system will allow them to do, but you would think I'm demanding them to book me an award res when none are available.
Any other thoughts on how to work this out, besides calling the hotel? The Diamond line was unwilling to do anything.
