Yes. I generally defer the benefits until the last minute. Remember as DM you actually have 3 benefits, 1 PM and 2 DM. I just took my 2014 RUC.
Let me make sure I understand this, as I'm currently PM and will make DM for first time in next few days: if I pick my DM choice benefit now, say the RUCs, I will get the option of 8 more or the GUCs later?
On related note, do GUCs in practice work very often for TATL, in particular NYC-LHR? And does an unsuccessful attempt to use one restart expiration clock, or are you screwed if try to use at end of 12-month window and it doesn't go through? Does it just expire worthless?
