Actually, Google Earth measures the distance from the farthest gate to the taxi stands at about 1.3km at Shenzhen. At Chek Lap Kok, though, it's 1.43km from the farthest gate in the main terminal building to the Airport Express station, but granted there's a better internal transport system at HK. Transit from one terminal to another at Moscow Sheremetyevo can also be up to 1.4km, with no internal transit system.
The problem of long walks at airports, especially the newer ones, is a serious one, made much much worse by the trend to turn airports into shopping malls for captive travellers. Airport authorities don't encourage compact design; they want a lot of space they can rent out to shops.
