We still use them, and have experienced some, but not all, of these issues. We've seen them over capacity on holiday weekends, but pretty open most of the rest of the time. And, on the over-capacity dates, we've simply used Valet service. The shuttle frequency has been quite good for us, and customer service very reasonable.

With the 1-2 day discount coupons, I find the prices reasonable.

They seem to be moving to using pay machines instead of the person at the booth. On our last trip we were all asked to pay inside prior to exiting. Some at the counter and some (like us) at a machine. This was very easy. Read the parking ticket and the barcode on the voucher. I think it even charged us too little, but didn't analyze it

Then just gave the card to the booth person. It seems that, longer term, it will all be machine pay and card-in-the-slot to exit.

They also talk of going to a reservation system at some point.

If we lived in SF, Uber might be a good option. Not so much from the South Bay
