This must be new...it wasn't there for any of my itins since Thanksgiving (5 itins), either checking in purely online or through the android-based application.

Yes, this is correct, PMUA had a much more robust system for EasyCheckIn and actually allowed you to un-checkin, just as you would check-in...easy peasy. Then comes along CO and along with their [still] antiquated systems, do not provide a way to uncheck-in.

As previously mentioned however, if you do a SDC to outside of your current day and/or change the itin using that full schedule/route change procedure, you will also be unchecked in from your current flight, of course, and NOT be checked back in for your new flight.
