IIRC, PMUA used to allow you to un-checkin online. I've never seen the option since the merger, and when I tried to do this when auto-checkin defaulted to check me in to a flight I didn't want to maybe a couple of months after the merger, it took web support over 30 minutes (IIRC) to do so.
Don't know about the rest of the domestic carriers, but many foreign carriers allow you to do this online, as well.
