Not really better if we are talking about putting that $500 towards an economy flight and you want to fly when prices are higher. if you want to book with AC at peak times when prices are over $1000 (for YOW at least) then Your 60,000 points are worth more than $500
You're assuming that you'll be able to book an Aeroplan reward flight during peak travel times (with direct flights or 1 stopover only, without bizarre routing), so that the points would be worth much more? Good luck with that! LOL
