Reading Carolnl's post above, there is clear evidence of 2 now having received same-day visas from the Consulates, using the SCEDV system: Houston, Texas, and Beverly Hills, serving the Southern California area.

There are probably more consulate locations coming online to do so.

A good improvement, and a change for the better. As the USD and other currencies are getting stronger against the BRL at the moment, even though it is relatively expensive in Brasil, visitors travelling now have more purchase power.
