I've seem many North Americans expect to be pampered just because they are the "highest tier", even beyond what is published benefits. Then the slightest inconvenience they expect massive amounts of goodies to offset their hurt feelings. Not all cultures worked that way.

With that said, it's good for the OP to fight for the maximum comps. He ended up with 21K and bottle of wine, so pretty much a free ride. Good for him.

Now I know I needed to throw a fit when the slightest injustices came upon me so I can get as much as I demanded.
