Hi, I'm planning an 8-month around the world trip for my family (2 adults, 2 kids) leaving late next year. We have just barely enough miles between my United miles and Chase Ultimate Reward points to book 4 RTW award tickets in economy through United (800k miles total). But I'm wondering if this is the most economical way to go or if there are better options such as combining multiple open jaw award tickets.
Itinerary is:
SFO > Bangkok > Colombo (Sri Lanka) > Cairo > Tel Aviv > Istanbul > Dar es Salaam > SFO
I've spoken to a couple United reps at the United Alliance desk about this, and they both said that the RTW ticket (200k miles for an economy saver award) is the most economical way to do this trip--they couldn't figure out how to combine multiple open jaws to do it. But I can't help thinking that they're not being creative enough
Any advice from the experts out there on whether there's a more economical way to book this trip with my miles (and perhaps use the saved miles to upgrade some of the longer legs)?
Thanks!
