I'd call the number on the back of your card, explain your situation, and specifically ask for them to cover the cancellation penalty fee. They probably won't cover the full cost of the room (assuming you can cancel that), but in my experience they have been great in fulfilling claims.

You'll probably be asked to fill out a 2-pg form and submit some paperwork (receipts, tickets, proof of cancellation, etc.).
