You would think that there would be data embedded in the bar codes so that the agent could see PreCheck eligibility upon scanning the boarding passes. If not, that's a pretty boneheaded move on TSA's part.
In the case of Seattle, the messy merge occurs behind the desk because the pre-check inspection line isn't segregated with a walk-way that blocks access to others - both the pre-check and another lane share the same WTMD, which is a really dumb idea, not to mention the mix of pre-check people going to the other x-ray and non-pre people coming to the pre- x-ray.
