If it comes from A, there will be passengers staying on board. This means early bird boarding in X has less value than if the plane is empty.

I'm sure this has been answered before, but I don't know what search terms to use.

A couple of ways I've used:

Search the flight # in Google. it shows the status for all flights with that number so you can see if A to X appears, in which case, X to Z is usually a continuing through flight.

Look at the Arrivals board in the airport for your departing gate and see from where and with which flight number the arriving plane came.

The number of through pax is tougher...sneak a peak at the screen as they scan your ticket while you board for the number of Throughs (and add BPs Issued to get an idea about load).
