How can I establish if a specific flight I board at airport X for destination Z originates in X, or rather in A?

If it comes from A, there will be passengers staying on board. This means early bird boarding in X has less value than if the plane is empty.

I'm sure this has been answered before, but I don't know what search terms to use.
