I only do paid stays here, so I cannot answer for sure. But it seems with many Euro IC's, YMMV on award stays. Some people get good treatment, some don't and I think some of these hotels change their policy from time to time on award stays.
I think it might also depend if hotel is sold out or not and/or the best rooms are already booked or not.
