Was this way for me as of June 2014, the last time I flew VA LAX-SYD. IIRC, I also received my lounge invitation during check in at T3 and then just walked over to TBIT - a 3-5 min walk as T3 in adjacent to TBIT. IIRC, the lounge invitation was for the Star Alliance lounge which was fantastic.

To get from the DL T5/6 terminals to T3, I sometimes just walk through the parking deck between the two terminals rather than taking the shuttle bus.
