The LM CM is only 3k points on weekends. During high season, that might even be cheaper than Suriwongse. I agree, though, that mid-level hotels in CM are generally a great value and still comfortable enough. I rarely use points for 5* hotels in Bangkok because it doesn't seem like a good value.

The OP said she likes bazaars, so some place near the night bazaar might be more convenient than inside the city walls. But I've stayed there too and it was nice enough (strangely quiet and also less expensive for hotel and food, as I recall).

Why do all the tourists flock to CM? I like the feel of CM and the weather around Xmas is great for me. The markets are fun, large, and convenient. It's easy to get around. Many areas with few or no cars, good for walking around. Lots of temples and interesting tours (Doi Inthanon, Night Safari, ATV, bamboo rafting, elephant riding, hill tribes, waterfalls, ziplining, or whatever you want). Very cheap city in general. No problems with motorbikes where I hang out. I have been to Udon, Khon Kaen, Ubon, and other miscellaneous smaller cities around Thailand. I slightly prefer CM over those. It depends on your travel tastes, I guess. I've never been to Korat, but I'll add that to my list.
