Cancel BAEC and registering for new account
My BAEC account TP year ends on 8th August. Currently have about 25k avios mainly from Tesco in the account (as well as in a Avios account) but 0 TP. I believe the date on the account is from when I took a AI flight last summer that awarded 75 avios. No other flights have been registered/accredited.
In March I have a TP run which should net 780 TP.
I was thinking if I cancel my existing account and then start a new one, I would have benefit from having silver status for longer. At present with flights planned this would be from early April 15 through to end of next membership year in August 2016. However, if I start a new account I would get this until December 2016. (I recall reading that the new account would only start officially when the first flight is taken so in theory I would gain status through to March/April 2016.)
On this basis is the following correct?
If no changes made = presently no status followed by silver status from April 2015 (year end August 2015) status end August 2016, with soft landing to bronze.
If cancelled and start a new account = silver status from April 2015 (year end either December 2015 if one year from account opening or April 2016 if one year from first flight) with status ending in either December 2016 or April 2017 followed by soft landing.
Is there any reason why I cannot close my existing account (no concern over lifetime TP) and I can transfer my current avios over to my avios account so won't lose these? What are the potential pitfalls with doing this? My planned flights are all currently linked to this account (and with a household account, bit again no TP in these accounts.)
Sorry for the long post but hoping somebody can help so that I can get the most out of the flights I will be taking.
