I'm going to have a little moan.. Am sure this has been raised before...
I am currently at 220TP with about 2 months left on my membership year, one booking next week and no certainty of any others before the 12 months are up in early Feb.
All my (paid) travel is for my work, and is ET short haul from (usually) LHR - BRU, AMS, CDG, occasional runs to BCN or MAD. I have a shed load of Avios for leisure travel.
I've done I think 18 or 20 BA sectors this year, with a couple in the fare buckets that attract 20TP per sector rather than 10, hence my 220 running total.
The nature of my work means that flights are usually booked 1 to 3 weeks out. I would conservatively estimate my employer has shelled out £2500 for BA flights this year.
And yet, I am not even Bronze never mind any of the tiers that get me the benefits I would really enjoy using.
So when I see this:
£1.33/TP | £319 | 240TPs | JER-LGW-MLA-LGW-JER | J/R/R/J | ba.com | skipcool3 | BA
.. which extrapolating would get you to Silver for £800 spent (yes, I know it doesn't divide evenly) I do sometimes think that surely BA should tie status a little closer to the amount of money that they've had off me (or my employer) rather than just the class travelled.
It's not just people who are at the pointy end that appreciate some recognition and the TP bandings don't really reflect spend - certainly not on shorthaul anyway as the example above shows.
Surely a minimum of say 20TP per £100 spent (even after APD etc but not excluding the dreaded YQ which goes straight to BA) wouldn't be too much to ask for? Some of the epic TP runs I've seen posted - thinking about the
great TR from
chris1979 and
VFRonTOp for example - have cost less what has already been spent on my behalf and got them almost straight to Gold.
