Terrific report--many thanks for posting! I've got a HKG-ORD segment coming up in UA GF in a few weeks, but it's on the 772, not the 744. I've done many a segment in UA J on the 744 upper deck and am actually a fan of the product. That said, as you observe, Global First is basically the J soft product with a nicer seat and amenity kit. My only other flight in UA GF (LHR-ORD awhile back), I happened to have a great FA who made the experience feel a bit more "premium," but it still doesn't hold a candle to the heavy hitters like SQ, etc. My six hours in SQ suites from DEL-SIN a few months ago were some of the best hours I've ever spent in the sky, though the catering ex-DEL is borderline inedible. That said, Krug and Johnny Blue flowing like water from wheels up to touchdown more than made up for it. Anyway, GF still beats the heck out of Y, especially on the 744!
