FWIW, I understand that, at a recent guest reception, managers at this hotel mentioned that they have refurbishment plans for the rooms, to follow the recent refurbishment of the public areas.

Yes, I did read responses to some of the TA reviews where management had boldly claimed "We are about to refurbish all our rooms, despite the fact our oldest rooms are only 10 years old, and some just 5." - that may be, but the difference is that in other hotels when rooms are old, things are patched up, TVs are modernised, etc. Time had stood still in the first room I got.
