Thanks! HKG-PEK in F is too short to really enjoy it, definitely an indulgence and worthy of the F status. Since KA/CX J is so good, it's not really that necessary (kind of like going in F vs J on AA JFK-LAX). However, a KA F ticket is a great option for those who do not hold One World Emerald, as if you depart HKG it would give access to The Wing FCL.

As much as I am a critic, I think you will enjoy it; or maybe I enjoyed it because it is only 2x the price of a CHEAP Y ticket and you get insane RDM. I don't really understand the people who bought it and got buyers remorse and didn't want to fly it, as if there are lepers in F or something. UA Global F is relatively bad compared to other F, but still a great MR/vacation.

Thanks! Same as above. Just keep the expectations low. like think domestic F and you will be more than satisfied!

Maybe they're flying in comfortable clothes and they choose to stand by the gate because they lack club access or feel that they're going to be sitting for a while and care to stretch their legs?
How do you know that they're not brain surgeons or corporate lawyers that choose to spend their money on things other than expensive flights (maybe they're paying for a family and don't elect to spend for 4x biz or first class seats)?
Sorry, getting down off my horse now. This attitude of calling people gate lice and kettles turns me off a bit...
That being said, it looks like the start of a great trip report. Thanks for taking the time to do it.
my problem isn't that they assume I am flying in coach (i mean, that's usually 80% of the capacity of an average aircraft right, not a stretch by any means). my problem is when you get in the correct line and they automatically assume that you are in the wrong line...
and re: pejorative use of kettles. apologies, i did not mean to be classist, my use is totally improper, i should have just said non-priority boarding groups.
however, gate lice, completely disagree, actually i love this term. there's queuing up like a normal person = normal people, and there's OMG everyone's going to get on the plane without me OMG front of line / pacing and completely disregarding boarding priority, no matter if you're in the regular line or GS/EXP/Diamond line = gate lice. UA has
plenty of Group 1/2/3/4/5 lines to queue in. #sorrybutnotsorry.
