You would need a decibel meter and to take readings at various positions. It is possible that there are certain places where a resonance (or amplifying of sound) is created by walls, seats, bins etc.

That being said, I'm pretty sure the sound level was basically the same. I would guess the Penguin's recent enamourment with BR has swayed his senses. Like they say when when one is in love, food tastes better, the air smells better, etc.
