Taxi flat rate from JFK to Manhattan is now $52.50 (plus tolls, if any, and tip).
Most NYC car services charge roundtrip tolls when crossing the Hudson, although it's possible that a Jersey car service wouldn't.
My rule with car services is that if I don't know somebody who has used it, I'm not very interested in being the guinea pig, although if you can afford to get stranded if it doesn't work out, then I'd say go for it.
