Poor IT integration international to domestic

First off, a really big "thank you!" to the gate agent at gate 124 in MCO on Sunday! She, with considerable help from a supervisor, worked for over 30min to move us to an earlier MCO-MDW flight . Connecting in MCO from AUA to ORD. We had a late long layover that was showing delays making it even longer so hoped to get on an earlier MCO-ORD flight. But apparently something in the SW programming makes it really really hard (nearly impossible) for domestic agents to retrieve/change any part of your international itinerary.
It seems like everything from AirTran isn't quite integrated fully.
One agent had told us doing this was impossible. But we went to a different gate where they happily put us on the standby list, only to find out what a huge hassle it was once we cleared the list.
