Hope this is not too far off topic, but I was recently on an ICE train in Europe which had to halt outside Cologne (yes Cologne... ) because a suicidal pedestrian was at large on the tracks. The delay went for over an hour with regular updates by the train manager over the PA. The problem for me was not the delay but two pax sitting behind me raucously making a comedy of each announcement, whereas the cabin we were in was a designated “Quiet Zone” meaning no mobiles or audible conversations. Their behaviour was really offensive and instead of speaking to the train manager, who I thought might call out the pax publicly, I elected to ultra-discretely advise them this was a “Quiet Zone”. They firstly would not accept that such a thing existed and secondly spent the rest of the journey making loud remarks about my lack of humour and supposedly depressed mental state. I felt a terrible mixture of regret for annoying them; stupidity for not seeing the train manager instead and sadness on behalf of all the other pax who were trying to work or sleep. As you said, I turned into the bad person for trying to do something right. It seems no one is prepared to be corrected, no matter how courteously.
