I'll be on UA99 MEL-LAX(-ORD-PHL) tomorrow. I would love a shower once I arrive. Based on what I'm reading, I can use the *A lounge at TBIT by re-entering security. I have a 3:10 connection so I think I'm good on time. The issue I see is that I arrive at 6:50am and my flight to ORD departs at 10am. Otherwise, I guess I have to stay stinky until I get to the ORD lounge. I don't understand why all the UA major intl hub lounges don't have showers.
I don't believe that you'll have access to the *A lounge in TBIT. UA flights depart from T 7/8, and you'll be funneled through customs and out the door onto the land side upon deplaining at TBIT. Then it's a 15 minute walk to T 7/8.
The only shower in the United Club in T7 at LAX was impromptu last week, when the hot water pipe burst and scalding water came gushing through the ceiling. Hopefully, there will be repair by the time you arrive so you'll at least be able to brush your teeth in the United Club.
SFO has a nice arrivals lounge, and it's well worth routing through there to use it, in future.
